وماand never رُمتُI sought منهُfrom him الوصلunion إلاexcept that وراعنيand alarmed me
وما رُمتُ منهُ الوصل إلا وراعني
طُلوُعُthe rising of رقيبa watcher حيّبthwarted (reading uncertain) الفكرthought والحسّاand sense
طُلوُعُ رقيب حيّب الفكر والحسّا
And never did I seek union with him without being alarmed
by a watcher's rising, which thwarted thought and sense.
رقيبٌa watcher غداbecame نحسٌill-omened عليّfor me طُلوعهُhis rising
رقيبٌ غدا نحسٌ عليّ طُلوعهُ
وماand never فازprospered منwhoever أمستbecame طوالعهhis rising stars نحساill-omened
وما فاز من أمست طوالعه نحسا
A watcher whose rising became an ill omen for me—
and none has prospered whose rising stars turned ill-omened.
