O learned scholar, whose sea of knowledge

sends its waves crashing among humankind:

when an abstruse meaning presents itself to his mind,

it is prey that never escapes him.

Though weakness has settled in your eyes, there has arisen

in your thinking about things a power to yield results.

When the paths to an abstruse meaning grow narrow,

you see whatever has narrowed as the broadest road.

And you are indeed a sea whose waves clash together,

and the sea never has need of eyes.

May the God of all worlds heal you by His grace,

until you see the minutest thing in its pitch-black darkness,

and swiftly remove from them the illness lodged within,

without harm, by the gentlest removal,

through him whom the Lord favored with seeing all that

lay behind him, and who was granted an ascent by Him.

Upon you be peace whose fragrance musk envies,

renewing wave after wave for you.
