وبينand between يمينيmy right hand واليسارand the left hand مسافةٌa distance
وبين يميني واليسار مسافةٌ
كأنّas though السّهاSuha (a star) منcompared with قفرهاits barren expanse قُربthe nearness of وثبةa leap
كأنّ السّها من قفرها قُرب وثبة
And between my right hand and the left lies a distance,
Between my right and left is a distance
beside whose barren expanse Suha seems but a leap away.
As if the emptiness with its wasteland is but a leap away
لئنif indeed زعمواthey claim أنّthat الخلاءthe void وجُودُهُits existence
لئن زعموا أنّ الخلاء وجُودُهُ
مُحالٌimpossible فمنقوضٌthen disproved بكفيّby my two palms وكيستيand my purse
مُحالٌ فمنقوضٌ بكفيّ وكيستي
If indeed they claim that the existence of a void
If they claim that the void and its existence
is impossible, my two palms and my purse refute their claim.
Is impossible, then it is refuted by my palm and bag
