قالوا لهُ من دُون وصلك حاجبُ
ووصالُand union غيركsomeone other than you مالهُit has no منany (emphasizing negation) حاجبa gatekeeper
ووصالُ غيرك مالهُ من حاجب
They said, "He has a gatekeeper barring union with you,
They said to him, "Without joining you there is an eyebrow"
while union with others has no gatekeeper;
And the union of others has no eyebrow
ونراكand we see you ذاpossessed of كلفinfatuation بهwith him فأجبتهمso I answered them
ونراك ذا كلف به فأجبتهم
ومدامعيand my tears تجريflow كصوبlike a downpour سحائبclouds
ومدامعي تجري كصوب سحائب
yet we see you infatuated with him." So I answered them,
And we see you burdened with it, so you answered them
as my tears flowed like rain pouring from clouds:
While my tears flow towards the clouds
ولرُبّماand indeed sometimes مُنعwas prevented الكريمthe generous man ومالهُand he has no
ولرُبّما مُنع الكريم ومالهُ
بُخلٌstinginess ولكنbut سوادُblackness حظّfortune الطّالبthe seeker
بُخلٌ ولكن سوادُ حظّ الطّالب
"Sometimes the generous man is kept from giving, though he has no
And sometimes the generous is denied, though he has
stinginess; rather, it is the blackness of the seeker's fortune."
No stinginess, but the darkness of the seeker's fortune
