ياO مُبدليyou who give me in exchange بالهجرwith estrangement منinstead of وصلهhis closeness
يا مُبدلي بالهجر من وصله
كنbe مُبدليone who gives me in exchange بالوحشin place of loneliness إيناساcompanionship
كن مُبدلي بالوحش إيناسا
O you who give me estrangement instead of your closeness,
O you who exchanged intimacy for estrangement
give me companionship in place of loneliness.
Be an exchanger of loneliness for a companion
ولاand do not تكنbe باللهfor God's sake عندat اللّقاthe meeting
ولا تكن بالله عند اللّقا
للوجهin countenance ياO حمزةُHamza عبّاساscowling
للوجه يا حمزةُ عبّاسا
And do not be, for God's sake, when we meet,
And by God, do not be at the encounter
grim-faced, O Hamza.
