And my heart inclined toward a graceful maiden and yearned for her;
My heart inclined towards Ghada as she grew up
And from her languid glances it complained of pain.
Whoever caught sight of her fell ill with love's sickness

A tender young maiden—when she appears, with the full moon on the horizon,
When her cheeks emerged, and the full moon was on the horizon
The full moon withdraws and hides, ashamed before her.
Shyly the moon hid itself and was veiled

Below her, her rump clings to her waist;
Below it is a mole on her waist, hanging
You see it trembling with fear, like the waves.
Looking like a wave, disturbed

And how many has she slain, though she is Aisha, the 'living one'!
And how many has she killed, while she lives
Yet none satisfied a longing with her, nor fulfilled a wish.
Without concluding or even intending

Were she to weep over a dead man, there would almost return to him,
If she cried over a corpse, her tears would
Before the Resurrection, the soul that had departed.
Return the soul before the Day of Resurrection

رُدُّواrestore (you all) علىto طرفيmy eye النّومthe sleep الذيthat سلباwas stolen
You say, when your eyes behold her radiant brow:
She said, when she saw your eyes seduce her
'Restore to my eye the sleep that was stolen!'
"Give back to my eyes the sleep you stole"
