ولم أر شعرا أدّق ولا

ولم أر شعرا أدّق ولا

أرى شاعراً كأبي الطّيب

أرى شاعراً كأبي الطّيب

And I have never seen finer poetry, nor

I have not seen poetry more refined, nor

do I see a poet like Abu al-Tayyib.

Have I seen a poet like al-Mutanabbi.

فمن ظنّ مثلا لهُ لم يكن

فمن ظنّ مثلا لهُ لم يكن

يميزُ الخبيث من الطّيب

يميزُ الخبيث من الطّيب

So whoever imagined an equal to him did not

Whoever thinks they are his equal

distinguish the vile from the good.

Cannot distinguish the bad from the good.
