وأغنّand a soft-voiced one بحلظهwith his glance (probable reading) شكpierced قلبيmy heart
وأغنّ بحلظه شك قلبي
فيهin it نارُthe fire الهوىof passion غدتbecame موقُودهkindled
فيه نارُ الهوى غدت موقُوده
And a soft-voiced one pierced my heart with his glance;
His glance ignited doubt within my heart
within it, the fire of passion has been kindled.
Where passion's fire was set ablaze
ياO حُشاheart الصّبّof the lovesick one أسهمarrows اللّحظof the glance منهاfrom her/it
يا حُشا الصّبّ أسهم اللّحظ منها
وجُمارُand glowing embers الضّرامof the blaze تشويكُscorch you بُودهpossibly a crucible; reading uncertain
وجُمارُ الضّرام تشويكُ بُوده
O lover’s heart, from it come the arrows of the glance,
O morning cups! The gazes were their arrows
and the embers of the blaze scorch you—perhaps as a crucible.
