في وصفها حارت ذوو التمييز
And a glass vessel with a bitter orange within it—
A glass bottle with an orange inside,
In describing it, the discerning were bewildered—
Perplexing those of discernment with its depiction.
كيدlike a hand منof المحبوبthe beloved شفّwas translucent صفاؤهاits purity
كيد من المحبوب شفّ صفاؤها
قبضتit clasped علىonto كرةa sphere منof الإبريزpure gold
قبضت على كرة من الإبريز
Like the beloved’s hand, translucent in its purity,
A ploy by the beloved whose purity captivated,
Clasping a sphere of pure gold.
Clutching a sphere of ambergris.
