قدindeed صحّhas proved true أنّthat العقربيّal-ʿAqrabī لعقربindeed a scorpion

It has been confirmed that al-ʿAqrabī is indeed a scorpion.
They traced his descent to it, and to no other was he traced.
هُوhe عقربٌa scorpion لذعاتُهُhis stings بلسانهwith his tongue
فإذاso when بداappears لكto you خُذtake hold بنعلكof your sandal واضربand strike
He is a scorpion whose stings are delivered with his tongue.
So when he appears before you, seize your sandal and strike.
أعطيتهُI gave him جُعلاa fee ليحرسto guard منزليmy home
فأجابنيso he answered me برضىwillingly ولمand did not يتقّطبfrown
I gave him a fee to guard my home.
So he answered me willingly and did not frown.
فثناهُso they dissuaded him عنfrom جُعليmy fee أراذلscoundrels مثلهُlike him
كلٌّeach one بتعنيفwith harsh rebuke لهُfor him وتأنّبand reproach
Then scoundrels like him turned him away from my fee,
Each one harshly rebuking and reproaching him.
فذممتهمso I censured them فيfor العذلthe reproach ثُمّthen مدحتهمI praised them
لزوالهfor his departure عنّيfrom me بمدحwith praise مُطنبlengthy
So I censured them for their reproaches, then praised them
For his leaving me, with lengthy praise,
إذfor كانwas عذلهمُtheir reproach الّذيwhich عذلواthey reproached بهwith it
صدّاa barrier لداريfor my house منagainst دُخولentry العقربthe scorpion
For their reproach, with which they rebuked him, was
A barrier keeping the scorpion from entering my house.
