إليكto you فقدfor indeed ضاقتhave narrowed عليّfor me المسالكُthe paths
إليك فقد ضاقت عليّ المسالكُ
Oh, show me how the path to union may be found—
Ah, show me: what is the way to union
for all the ways to you have closed in upon me.
with you? For the paths have narrowed for me.
ألاAh! ليتwould that شعريmy knowledge هلcan بقربكthrough nearness to you منone who غذاhas become (apparently غدا)
ألا ليت شعري هل بقربك من غذا

Oh, would that I knew: whether nearness to you, for one who has become
Ah, would that I knew: through nearness to you, can one reduced
reduced to his last breath, may be won—and whether he can yet be saved.
to his last breath be favored—and can he be saved?

بأنّي مملوكٌ وأنك مالكُ
And, O my fair beloved, does it please you to see
And does it please you, O one of rare beauty, to see
that I am a slave while you are the master?
that I am a slave and you the master?

And if my fate, after your distance and estrangement,
And if my fortune, after your absence and estrangement,
should one day, smiling, grant me nearness to you,
one day bestowed your nearness upon me, smiling,

وأنشدتُ هذا اليومُ عندي مُباركُ
I would cry out at the very top of my voice, rejoicing,
I would cry out joyfully at the top of my voice
and chant: “This day, to me, is blessed!”
and sing: “This day is blessed for me!”
