    على تُونس الخضراء قد أشرق السّنا

    O learned, high-minded scholar, who has come

    to shine in splendor over verdant Tunis;

    and you whose lessons among humankind have come

    to attest to your lofty rank with praise and acclaim.

    How many books you begin and finish, and how often

    you are seen displaying subtle points and versatility in them,

    until you began the Treasure—rejoice, for from

    there prosperity has come, and from here as well.

    It is as though the tongue of fortune said to you: Take heed,

    and date the Treasure's beginning: 'Your beginning is wealth.'
