قد قال للشّرفي جامعنا اتئّد
لاdo not تطلبنّseek (emphatically) خطابتيmy preaching post بتجبّرwith arrogance
لا تطلبنّ خطابتي بتجبّر
Our mosque said to al-Sharafi, “Take your time;
Our preacher said to Al-Sharifi: Restrain yourself,
Do not seek my preaching post with arrogance.
Do not force me into speeches arrogantly,
فأناfor I بريءdisassociated منكمfrom you (plural) أبداforever علىthroughout
فأنا بريء منكم أبدا على
أمدspan الزّمانtime فكيفso how تطلبُdo you seek منبريmy pulpit
أمد الزّمان فكيف تطلبُ منبري
For I disavow you forever, throughout
I am forever innocent of you all
The span of time—so how can you seek my pulpit?”
Throughout time, so how can you demand my pulpit?
