بغرّته اهتدي للقلب شوقي
لذاكfor that reason تحيّرتwere bewildered منهُby him الدّراريthe radiant stars
لذاك تحيّرت منهُ الدّراري
By his radiant brow, my longing found its way to the heart.
His smile guided my heart's yearning
For that reason, the radiant stars were bewildered by him.
For that reason, young women were confused by him
محاسنهُhis charms غدتhave come to بالبدرupon the full moon تُزريcast scorn
محاسنهُ غدت بالبدر تُزري
فواso, oh شجويmy grief ولهفيand my yearning بالزّواريfor al-Zuwari
فوا شجوي ولهفي بالزّواري
His charms have come to put the full moon to shame.
His beauty rivaled the full moon
So, oh my grief and my yearning for al-Zuwari!
So alas my anguish and burning in [my] breast!
