جب النّدامى إذ أدار عليهم

جب النّدامى إذ أدار عليهم

قدحا فأهدى فضله لي زائري

قدحا فأهدى فضله لي زائري

The drinking companions marveled [assuming a missing initial letter] when he passed among them

When the regretful ones circled round him,

a cup, and my visitor offered me what remained of it.

And he passed me a cup, bestowing his favor upon me, his guest,

فأجبتهم لا تعجبوا يا قومُ إن

فأجبتهم لا تعجبوا يا قومُ إن

أهدت إليّ الشّمسُ فضل الدّائر

أهدت إليّ الشّمسُ فضل الدّائر

So I answered them: “Do not marvel, O people, if

I answered them, “Do not be amazed, O people, if

the sun has offered me the remainder of the circulating cup.”

The sun has given to me the favor of its circling course.”
