من غير جيش ولاسيف به شُهرا
My lord, may this early victory bring you joy,
My Master, may this new conquest bring you joy,
Without an army or a sword drawn for it.
Achieved without army or widely renowned sword,

No—rather, with two armies: patience's army, accompanied by
But rather with two armies - the army of patience paired
An army of good fortune that never ceases to prevail.
With a victorious army of good fortune.

All of them, captives from the farthest reaches of their land.
As captives from the furthest reaches of their land,

They submitted obediently out of fear, and came—
They surrendered obediently in their fear,
Each to you, girded in the garment of abasement.
Each coming to you wrapped in the garb of humility.

You pardoned them all when they came to you
Pardon is given for such a sin as they committed.
Though no pardon for such a sin from them was deserved,

But the nature of your soul in its nobility
So that you may reap gratitude; fortunate is whoever gives thanks.
Rewards gratitude and the fortunate with gratitude.

He came to you under protection, he would expect no harm,

For God has given you hallowed virtues,
For God granted you sacred morals
And noble patience through calamities, as you prevail.
And excellent patience in the face of events, victorious.

They came, not content with dominion, then were content
They came and were not content with the kingdom, then agreed
With what they gained by fleeing you in secret.
To the spoils they obtained by fleeing from you in hiding.

They fortified themselves against you in the mountains, out of fear,
They took refuge from you in the mountains in caution
And no man is blamed for being wary of a lion.
And no man is blamed for cautiously dreading.

So you did not muster an army to fight them,
You did not prepare against them an army for battle
When their host is a “broken plural,” however numerous.
Though they gathered for breaking and destruction in numbers,

They are not worthy of armies being mustered against them;
They are not equal to your assembling armies against them,
But Jlass is a match for them, even if it falls short.
But a few to chase them off would suffice, even if inadequate.

The lion does not deign to fight the fox, nor
The lion does not agree to fight foxes, nor
Does a hawk duel a sparrow to boast.
Does the falcon duel with a sparrow to boast.

They betrayed their covenants, made insolent by prosperity.
They betrayed the covenants of protection, they acted sinfully,
How great the loss of one who betrays God's covenant or grows insolent!
More lost is he who betrayed God's covenant or acted sinfully.

They chose deceit out of malice, and it engulfed them;
They preferred trickery out of wickedness, so ruin befell them,
And deceit engulfs none but those who practice it.
And trickery ensnares none but the trickster.

Tell those wretched ones, what was the motive that drove them
Against the son of Husayn, lord of princes?

Tastes better than punishing the sinner, however grave.

Flows like the Sihon River, nay, from his tranquility it flowed.

When the enemies see him, they retreat vanquished,
Will wild beasts stand firm if the lion of al-Shara bares its teeth?
Can the beasts stand firm when the lion of combat prowls?

For the increase of God's Bounty is not deprived of gratitude.

Have become objects of congratulations, the poet and the poetry.
