إنّي لأعجب من سُؤال النّاس عن

إنّي لأعجب من سُؤال النّاس عن

ماء الحياة بأيّ أرض مُنهمر

ماء الحياة بأيّ أرض مُنهمر

Indeed, I marvel at people's asking about

I am amazed at people asking where

the water of life: in what land does it gush forth?

The water of life flows in the land

ولقد أراه بثغر ظبي أغيد

ولقد أراه بثغر ظبي أغيد

حُلو اللّمى وعليه شاربُهُ الخضر

حُلو اللّمى وعليه شاربُهُ الخضر

And indeed I see it in a graceful gazelle's mouth,

Yet I see it in the lips of a gazelle

Sweet of dusky lips, with its drinker, al-Khidr, upon it.

Sweet to sip, and green the mouth that drinks it

ومن العجائب أنّ مُوسى يلتقي

ومن العجائب أنّ مُوسى يلتقي

معه هُنالك سائلا لم يصطبر

معه هُنالك سائلا لم يصطبر

And among the wonders is that Moses meets

And it is amazing that Moses meets

with him there, asking questions, yet failing to be patient.

Him there, asking though lacking patience
