فَوقَupon طِرفٍa noble steed كَالطَرفِlike a glance فيin سُرعَةِspeed الشَدthe gallop (word continues)
فَوقَ طِرفٍ كَالطَرفِ في سُرعَةِ الشَد
دِ(completes the word 'gallop') وَكَالقَلبِand like the heart قَلبُهُits heart فيin الذَكاءِintelligence; keenness
دِ وَكَالقَلبِ قَلبُهُ في الذَكاءِ
Upon a noble steed, swift as a glance in its gallop,
With a wit like a sharp wit in haste
And its heart is like the heart in keenness;
And a mind like a quick mind in intelligence
ماnot تَراهُsee it العُيونُthe eyes إِلّاexcept خَيالاًa phantom
ما تَراهُ العُيونُ إِلّا خَيالاً
وَهُوَand it مِثلُlike الخَيالِthe phantom فيin الإِنطِواءِslenderness
وَهُوَ مِثلُ الخَيالِ في الإِنطِواءِ
The eyes see it only as a phantom,
What the eyes see of him is but an illusion
And it is like a phantom in its slenderness.
And he is like an illusion in concealment
