اِعلَميknow ياO أَحَبَّdearest شَيءٍthing إلَيّاto me
أَنَّthat شَوقيmy longing إِلَيكِfor you قاضٍfatal عَلَيّاto me
Know, O dearest thing to me,
Know, O most beloved thing to me,
that my longing for you is killing me.
That my longing for you has overcome me.
إِنif قَضىdecrees اللَهُGod ليfor me إِلَيكِto you رُجوعاًa return
لاnot ذَكَرتُI recall الفِراقَparting ماas long as دُمتُI remain حَيّاalive
If God decrees my return to you,
If God decrees that I return to you,
I shall never recall parting as long as I live.
I will forget our parting as long as I live.
إِنَّindeed حَرَّthe heat الفِراقِof parting أَنحَلَhas wasted جِسميmy body
وَكَوىand seared القَلبَthe heart مِنكِbecause of you بِالشَوقِwith longing كَيّاa searing
Indeed, the heat of parting has wasted my body
For the heat of our parting has wasted my body
and seared my heart with longing for you.
And my heart is bent with longing for you.
