أُرضيهُمُI please them قَولاًwith words وَلاbut not يُرضُونَنيthey please me
فِعلاًwith deeds وَتِلكَand that قَضِيَّةٌa state of affairs لاnot تَقصِدُis equitable
I please them with words, but they do not please me
I please them with words, yet they are not pleased with me,
with deeds—and that is an unfair state of affairs.
With deeds, and that is an aimless matter.
فَأَذُمُّso I blame مِنهُمin them ماwhat يُذَمُّis blamed وَرُبَّماand sometimes

So I blame in them what deserves blame; and sometimes
So I ignore their blames, and sometimes
I have been lenient with them, and so praised what deserves no praise.
I forgive them, so I get praised for what is not praiseworthy.
