أَبلِغTell أَخاناour brother تَوَلّىmay take charge of اللَهُGod صُحبَتَهُhis companionship
أَنّيthat I وَإِنand although كُنتُI am لاnot أَلقاهُmeet him أَلقاهُmeet him
Tell our brother—may God be his companion—
that though I do not meet him, I meet him;
وَأَنَّand that طَرفِيَmy gaze مَوصولٌis connected بِرُؤيَتِهِto seeing him
وَإِنand although تَباعَدَhas grown distant عَنfrom مَثوايَmy dwelling مَثواهُhis dwelling
and that my gaze is bound to the sight of him,
though his dwelling lies far from mine.
اللَهُGod يَعلَمُknows أَنّيthat I لَستُI do not أَذكُرُهُrecall him
وَكَيفَand how أَذكُرُهُrecall him إِذwhen لَستُI do not أَنساهُforget him
God knows that I do not call him to mind;
and how could I call him to mind when I never forget him?
