سَميرٌan evening companion إِذاwhen جالَستَهُyou sit with him كانَhe would be مُسلِياًbringing solace
سَميرٌ إِذا جالَستَهُ كانَ مُسلِياً
فُؤادَكَyour heart مِمّاfrom what فيهِin it مِنof أَلَمِpain الوَجدِlonging
فُؤادَكَ مِمّا فيهِ مِن أَلَمِ الوَجدِ
A companion who, when you sit with him, brings relief
When you sit with Samir, he comforts
To your heart from the pain of longing within it.
Your heart from the pain of passion
يُفيدُكَhe gives you عِلماًknowledge أَوor يَزيدُكَhe gives you more حِكمَةًwisdom
يُفيدُكَ عِلماً أَو يَزيدُكَ حِكمَةً
وَغَيرُand not حَسودٍenvious أَوor مُصِرٌّpersisting عَلىin الحِقدِrancor
وَغَيرُ حَسودٍ أَو مُصِرٌّ عَلى الحِقدِ
He gives you knowledge or increases your wisdom,
He benefits you with knowledge or increases you in wisdom
And is neither envious nor persistent in rancor.
And he is not jealous or insistent on malice
وَيَحفَظُand he guards ماwhat اِستَودَعتَهُyou entrusted to him غَيرَnot غافِلٍheedless
وَيَحفَظُ ما اِستَودَعتَهُ غَيرَ غافِلٍ
وَلاand not خائِنٍbetraying عَهداًa pledge عَلىdespite قِدَمِthe long standing of العَهدِthe bond
وَلا خائِنٍ عَهداً عَلى قِدَمِ العَهدِ
And guards what you entrust to him, never heedless,
He preserves what you entrust him, not neglectful
Nor betraying a pledge, however old the bond.
Nor betraying a pact from the first of the pact
زَمانُa season رَبيعٍspring فيin الزَمانِtime بِأَسرِهِin its entirety
زَمانُ رَبيعٍ في الزَمانِ بِأَسرِهِ
يَبيحُكَhe grants you access to رَوضاًa meadow غَيرَnot ذاوٍwithered وَلاnor جَعدِshriveled
يَبيحُكَ رَوضاً غَيرَ ذاوٍ وَلا جَعدِ
A season of spring throughout all time,
A time of spring in time overall
He offers you a meadow, neither withered nor shriveled.
It permits you a meadow neither desolate nor barren
يُنَوِّرُhe blossoms أَحياناًat times بِوَردِwith roses of بَدائِعٍwondrous creations
يُنَوِّرُ أَحياناً بِوَردِ بَدائِعٍ
أَخَصُّmore congenial وَأَولىand more fitting بِالنُفوسِto souls مِنthan الوَردِroses
أَخَصُّ وَأَولى بِالنُفوسِ مِن الوَردِ
He blossoms at times with roses of wondrous creations,
It illuminates at times with the roses of wonders
More congenial to souls and more fitting for them than roses.
More special and suited to souls than roses
