بَلاءٌa calamity لَيسَdoes not يُشبِهُهُresemble it بَلاءٌa calamity
بَلاءٌ لَيسَ يُشبِهُهُ بَلاءٌ
عَداوَةُenmity غَيرِnot ذيpossessing حَسَبٍnoble standing وَدينِand faith
عَداوَةُ غَيرِ ذي حَسَبٍ وَدينِ
A calamity unlike any other calamity:
A trial unlike any trial
The enmity of one without noble standing or faith.
The enmity of one without merit or faith
يُبيحُكَhe lays open to you مِنهُof his عِرضاًhonor لَمnot يَصُنهُhe guards it
يُبيحُكَ مِنهُ عِرضاً لَم يَصُنهُ
وَيَرتَعُand he grazes freely مِنكَof yours فيin عِرضٍhonor مَصونِwell-guarded
وَيَرتَعُ مِنكَ في عِرضٍ مَصونِ
He lays open to you his honor, which he has not guarded,
Who wrongs you though you've caused no affront
And grazes freely on your well-guarded honor.
And from your honor takes his fill though untouched
