قَتَلناwe killed خَمسَةًfive وَرَمواand they shot نُعَيماNuʿaym
قَتَلنا خَمسَةً وَرَموا نُعَيما
وَكانَand was القَتلُbeing slain لِلفِتيانِfor young men زَيناan adornment
وَكانَ القَتلُ لِلفِتيانِ زَينا
We killed five, and they shot Nuʿaym.
And being slain was an adornment for young men.
لَعَمرُby the life of الباكِياتِthe weeping women عَلىfor نُعَيمٍNuʿaym
لَعَمرُ الباكِياتِ عَلى نُعَيمٍ
لَقَدindeed جَلَّتhas been grievous رَزِيَّتُهُthe loss of him عَلَيناto us
لَقَد جَلَّت رَزِيَّتُهُ عَلَينا
By the lives of the women weeping for Nuʿaym,
His loss has indeed been grievous to us.
فَلاso do not تَبعُدgo far away نُعَيمُNuʿaym فَكُلُّfor every حَيٍّliving being
فَلا تَبعُد نُعَيمُ فَكُلُّ حَيٍّ
سَيَلقىwill meet مِنfrom صُروفِthe vicissitudes of الدَهرِtime حَيناdeath
سَيَلقى مِن صُروفِ الدَهرِ حَينا
So be not far away, Nuʿaym, for every living being
Will meet death through the vicissitudes of time.
