اذاwhen دَعاهاcalls her الروضُthe meadow واطَّباهاand entices her
واشْتاقهاand longs for her الوِرْدُthe water علىin صَداهاher thirst
When the meadow calls her and entices her,
When the meadow calls her and woos her,
And the water longs for her in her thirst,
And the rose longs for her with its fragrance,
وخَلَطَتْand mingled بِقاعِهاher plains رُباهاher hills
ولمand not يُرَمْwas sought لِحَثِّهاto urge her on حُداهاher driving chant
And her hills mingle with her plains,
And she mingles with its domains as she pleases,
And no driving chant is sought to urge her on,
With no limits set to restrain her,
وشَفَّهاand wore her thin الذَّميلُthe gentle trot وانْتضاهاand stripped her of flesh
فلاso do not تَلوماهاblame her (you two) علىfor شَقاهاher hardship
And the gentle trot wears her thin and strips her of flesh,
And the north wind kisses and caresses her,
Then do not blame her, you two, for her hardship,
Then do not blame her for her misery,
حيثُsince أَبوAbu (father of) القاسِمِal-Qasim مُبْتغاهاher goal
أبلَجُradiant للعلياءِfor glory فيupon ذُراهاits heights
For Abu al-Qasim is her goal,
Where Abu Al-Qasim seeks her,
Radiant for glory upon its heights.
Swift for the lofty ones in their abodes,
اذاwhen دَناdraws near لِفاقةٍto poverty أغْناهاmakes it rich
وانْand if بَداappears لِكُرْبَةٍbefore distress جَلاهاdispels it
When he draws near to poverty, he makes it rich,
If poverty approaches, he enriches her,
And if he appears before distress, he dispels it.
And if distress appears, he relieves her,
طَبٌّskilled بعَقْرat slaughtering النِّيبthe aged she-camels فيat ممساهاtheir evening hour
وبالجيادِand with the steeds الجُرْدِsleek فيin ضُحاهاtheir forenoon
Skilled at slaughtering aged she-camels at their evening hour,
Good fortune to the Prophet's land in its dwellings,
And with sleek steeds in their forenoon.
And to the brave steeds in its plains,
تحسُدهُenvy him الحُفَّلُthe full-uddered camels فيin نَداهاtheir bounty
فبلغَthus reached الوزيرُthe vizier منتهاهاits utmost height
The full-uddered camels envy him in their bounty,
The ignoble envy her in her advance,
Thus the vizier has reached its utmost height.
Thus the minister attained his utmost desire.
