لئن خالت نوىً قذف شطونٌ

لئن خالت نوىً قذف شطونٌ

يظن على الوداد بها العفاءُ

يظن على الوداد بها العفاءُ

Though a far-flung, distant separation has intervened,

If she was cruel with her beloved,

through which love is thought to be effaced,

And thought that compassion for him had gone,

فلم أهجرك مَلَلاً ولكن

فلم أهجرك مَلَلاً ولكن

هو الرحمنُ يفعلُ ما يشاءُ

هو الرحمنُ يفعلُ ما يشاءُ

I did not forsake you out of weariness; rather,

Then I did not abandon you out of boredom,

it is the Most Merciful who does whatever He wills.

But it is the Merciful who does what He wills.
