The vast host glories in Ibn Muhalhil,

And Husam al-Din himself, through his might, is a vast host.

And the sleek horses frown beneath his dust-cloud,

Then good fortune and victory from him set them rejoicing.

A youth who taught the tawny, slender spears and sword-edges

His valor, until heads and throats complained.

When he kindles the two fires at dawn and in darkness,

The destitute and the vulture rejoice in abundance.

I have left in his honor far-roaming verses of my praise,

That delight the heights of glory when Badr recites them.
