ماno فيin مودتهhis affection شَوْبٌtaint ولاand no طبعُtarnish
Say to al-Mujahid a word from a trustworthy brother,
Tell the fighter with confidence from his brother,
Whose affection holds neither taint nor tarnish:
There is no doubt in his friendship nor ill nature,
أصبحتَyou have become اشرفَthe noblest هذاthese الناسpeople كُلِّهمall of them
نفساًin spirit وليand I have حُجَّةٌan argument غرَّاءshining تُستَمعُis listened to
You have become the noblest of all these people
You have become the most noble of all people,
In spirit—and I have a shining argument to be heard:
A soul that I have clear evidence for that is heard,
فيكin you الوفاءloyalty وصدقand truthfulness of القولspeech يشفعهُreinforces it
وحيثand wherever كنتyou are فلاthen no ظُلْمٌinjustice ولاand no جَزعُdismay
In you is loyalty, reinforced by truthfulness of speech,
In you is loyalty and truthfulness in speech interceding for you,
And wherever you are, there is neither injustice nor dismay.
Wherever you are, there is no injustice nor alarm,
كأنماas though جاركَyour neighbor الممنوعُprotected جانبهُhis flank
فيon نيقِthe summit of أورقa gray mountain يُعييwearies ناظراًan onlooker صدعُan ibex
It is as though your neighbor, whose flank is protected,
As if your neighbor whom you are deprived of,
Were an ibex on a gray mountain's summit that wearies the beholder.
In an abundant, leafy meadow that tires the onlooker's eye,
ولوand even if نزلْتَyou settled سِباخاًsalt flats أصبحتthey would become أُنُفاًfresh and ungrazed
منof الرياضmeadows بهاin them رِيٌّample water ومُرتبَعُand spring pasture
And even if you settled on salt flats, they would become fresh, ungrazed
And if you descend to a lowland, you become a lofty peak,
Meadows, with ample water and spring pasture.
With gardens in which there is irrigation and settlement,
وماand no ثناكturned you away عنfrom الحقِّthe truth الخفيِّhidden هَوىًdesire
ولاnor أطَّباكَlured you إلىtoward مذمومةٍa blameworthy deed طمعُgreed
And no desire has turned you from the hidden truth,
No passion has turned you from the hidden truth,
Nor has greed lured you toward a blameworthy deed.
Nor has greed coaxed you to the blameworthy,
فعشتso you have lived مُشتملاًcloaked بالعزِّin glory مُدَّرِعاًarmored
يُطاعُis obeyed أمركyour command إذْwhen يُزجىis issued ويُتَّبعand is followed
Thus you have lived, cloaked and armored in glory;
So you have lived shielded with honor, armored,
Your command is obeyed when issued, and followed.
Your order is obeyed when charged and followed.
