ياO مَنْwho لهto him belongs المَجْدُglory بمجموعِهِin its entirety
منfrom نازِحٍone far away قاصٍdistant ومنْand from حاضرِone present
O you whose is glory in all its fullness,
O you to whom glory belongs in its entirety,
among the far-removed and distant, and those present—
from those far away and distant, and from those present;
ومَنْand who إذاwhen يَمَّمَهُturns toward him لاجيءٌa refuge-seeker
قامَhe stands مقامَin the place of السيفِthe sword والماطِرِand the rain-giving cloud
and you who, whenever a refugee turns toward you,
and you who, when a seeker of refuge turns to you,
stand in place of both the sword and the rain-cloud:
stand in place of the sword and the rain-giving cloud.
أذْكِرُكَI remind you of العهْدَthe old bond وأبْناءَهُand its sons
وأنتَand you عينُthe very embodiment of الخابرِthe knowledgeable one الذَّاكِرِthe remembering one
I call to your mind the old bond and those born of it,
I remind you of the old bond and its heirs,
though you are the very one who knows and remembers.
and you are the very one who knows and remembers.
إنَّindeed بنيthe sons of الصَّاحِبِal-Sahib قدalready فاتَهُمْwas lost to them
أرْوَعُa splendid man مِثلُlike العَلَمِthe banner الزَّاهِرِradiant
Indeed, the sons of al-Ṣāḥib have lost
Indeed, the sons of al-Sahib have lost
an awe-inspiring man, like a radiant standard.
a splendid man, like a radiant banner.
وكمْand how many لهhe has منْof سالِفٍa past merit سابِقٍearlier
وصُحْبةٍand companionship تُحْفظُis preserved للآخِرِfor the one who follows
How many a bygone service of his came before,
And how many earlier merits were his,
and a fellowship to be honored for the one who follows.
and friendships to be preserved for the one who follows!
وماand there is no لِكَسْرِfor the brokenness of القومِthe people فيماin what لَقواthey suffered
غيرُother than نَدىthe dew (bounty) of كَفَّيْكَyour two palms منْany جابِرِmender
For the people’s fracture in what befell them
And for these people's brokenness in what they have suffered,
has no mender but the bounty of your two hands.
there is no mender but the dew of your two palms.
فعطْفَةًso, a kind gesture تنْعَشُthat revives جَدَّthe good fortune of العُلىhigh honor
مُقيلةًrescuing منْfrom وهْنَةِthe weakness of العاثِرِthe one who stumbles
So grant a gracious favor that revives the fortunes of high honor,
So grant a kindness that revives the fortune of high honor,
raising the stumbling one from the weakness of his fall.
lifting the one who has stumbled out of weakness.
