يا فارس الخيل تَردي في أعِنَّتها

يا فارس الخيل تَردي في أعِنَّتها

والشَّاهدان بها حربٌ وميدانُ

والشَّاهدان بها حربٌ وميدانُ

O rider of steeds galloping in their reins,

O knight of horses that race in their meadows

And the two witnesses to this are war and the battlefield.

With warriors in them, there is war and battlefield

اِنْ لَقَّبوكَ لدين المصطفى أسداً

اِنْ لَقَّبوكَ لدين المصطفى أسداً

فانَّ فعلك للتَّلقيبِ بُرهانُ

فانَّ فعلك للتَّلقيبِ بُرهانُ

If they have called you a lion for al-Mustafa's faith,

If they name you lion for the religion of Mustafa

Then your conduct is proof of that title.

Then your action is evidence for the attribution

تُغادر البطل الجحجاح في رهجٍ

تُغادر البطل الجحجاح في رهجٍ

شِلْواً تناهبهُ طيرٌ وسيدانُ

شِلْواً تناهبهُ طيرٌ وسيدانُ

You leave the mighty champion amid the dust,

The hero leaves Al-Jaḥjaḥ in a blaze

A carcass that birds and wolves vie to plunder.

While birds and hunters plunder it

وتفضلُ الغيث والأيامُ مُجدبَةٌ

وتفضلُ الغيث والأيامُ مُجدبَةٌ

بأنَّ جودكَ في العافينَ تَهْتانُ

بأنَّ جودكَ في العافينَ تَهْتانُ

And you surpass the rain when the days are drought-stricken,

And rain and barren days prefer

For your generosity is a downpour upon those who seek bounty.

That your generosity in the healthy is disorderly

حُبِّي ذوي الهمم العلياءِ أنْطقني

حُبِّي ذوي الهمم العلياءِ أنْطقني

بمدح ذي همَّةٍ فيها له شأنُ

بمدح ذي همَّةٍ فيها له شأنُ

My love for those of lofty resolve has made me speak

My love for those of high ambitions made me speak

In praise of one eminent in his resolve.

In praise of one with an ambition in which he has prestige
