May your morning be happy, O cousin of Muhammad.

And may you remain a fierce slayer, bestowing favors for all time.

For you are the most generous of the clan, in face and palm,

And the most forbearing among them, with the best-defended domain.

Unyielding, while the necks of men are humbled,

Bold when the knight of battle draws back.

Composed when every level-headed man's knee-bindings fly loose,

Eloquent when the people's finest speaker mumbles.

Bright-faced and radiant, you gladden Ma'add,

    Smiling when dreadful calamity scowls.

You brought wandering glory home through striving, and took possession

Of a stronghold that had been scattered and divided.

And I swear: never have I deemed an acknowledged leader great

Among men, without your being greater in my eyes.

Nor has my soul deemed generous the pledges of the sons of eminence,

Which they honored for me, without your pledge proving more generous.

You become a blaze kindled in protective wrath,

And a brimming torrent when the rain ceases.

And indeed, words come readily to me in praise

Of you, while I mumble when speaking of anyone else.

May you remain the state's right hand for a bold, generous man, as long as the

breeze blows, and as long as darkness settles and grows starry.
