May the hands of calamity pass you by, and may they shun
The hands of misfortunes have surpassed you, and avoided
your envied station, those hands of misfortune.
Your envied abode, O hands of calamities!

And you have remained, O house of Al Muzaffar, a protection
of the guest and the refuge of the hungry destitute.
For the guest and a shelter for the eager seekers.

vying with the points of sharpened, cleaving blades.
Rivaling the breasts of the lofty ships.

he encompassed and surpassed in generosity and valor—
It contained it, so it grew between generosity and excellence,
the beauty of humankind, the adornment of battle and processions:
The beauty of the world, the adornment of intimacy and processions.

Abu al-Faraj, whose fingertips' bounty pours forth
Abu Al-Faraj Al-Hamawi's palms whose benevolence
when thick-fringed clouds withhold their bounty.
Flows abundantly when the clouds are miserly.

A radiant man whose generosity dispels the gloom of fortune,
The most soothing that reveals the hidden chances is his generosity,
and by his face the darkness of deepest gloom is dispelled.
And from his face the darkness of the unknown is illuminated.

When ʿAdud al-Din follows the paths of glory,
When the support of the religion approached the conduct of the high,
he flings clouds of dust into the faces of lofty ranks.
He spurred the rushing ones in the faces of the steps.

Thus every towering height is a low plain before his striving,
So every towering one faded before his hearing,
and everything distant is near and close at hand to him.
And every nearer became, to him, all who sought nearness.

Whenever he mounts it with ʿAdud-like ambition,
If he undertook it with a resolve of support,
it shows him the bright stars as pebbles on stony ground.
He showed it the gravel of Al-Ma'zaa', blossoms of stars.

Vitality and shyness in greetings, comfort,
and gracious apologies amid lavish gifts.
And gentle apology in tremendous matters.

So congratulations to the month of fasting for the worshipper it has in him:
So he made the month of fasting happy through his devotion,
pious, praiseworthy in his striving, and rich in virtues.
Pious, praiseworthy endeavor, and perfect traits.
