May God's protection guard you against every calamity,

And may sound judgment guide and inspire you.

And may you always be looked to with hope and feared, wherever you are,

Dealing out severity and favors among men.

For you are dew when the year's winter turns barren,

And you are the refuge when the cavalry's champion draws back.

Fingers that, when you seek their aid and ask for their bounty,

Vie in pouring a torrent that spills bounty and blood.

When covetous desires entice men's souls,

You prove the most self-restrained in soul and most generous of the tribe.

My thoughts outpace my words about the vizier,

So I praise him before I speak.

You encounter forbearance in the council, and in battle

Deliberation and deadly assault—tempestuous and overwhelming.
