جزىmay reward اللّهGod خيراًwith good منas اِمامٍan imam تخيَّرتْchose
جزى اللّه خيراً من اِمامٍ تخيَّرتْ
رَويَّتُهُhis deliberation منكَin you الهُمامَthe noble champion المصَمِّماthe resolute one
رَويَّتُهُ منكَ الهُمامَ المصَمِّما
May God richly reward the imam who chose,
May Allah reward the one whose leadership I have chosen
Through his deliberation, you—the noble, resolute champion.
Whose determination and resolve I have learned from you
لقدindeed روَّضturned into meadows المغبرَّthe dust-covered ground منof كلevery ماfirst fragment of ماحل: barren tract حلٍsecond fragment of ماحل: barren tract
لقد روَّض المغبرَّ من كل ما حلٍ
وطَبَّقَand filled أرضَthe earth of اللّهِGod بأساًwith might وأنْعُماand bounties
وطَبَّقَ أرضَ اللّهِ بأساً وأنْعُما
He has indeed turned the dusty ground of every barren tract into meadows,
He has tamed the unruly in every situation
And filled God's earth with might and bounties.
And has ruled Allah's land with might and grace
وأوضحand clarified نهجthe path of المجدglory بعدafter اشتباههits obscurity
وأوضح نهج المجد بعد اشتباهه
بهادٍwith a guide اذاwhen ماemphatic particle منهجُthe path of المجدِglory أظْلماgrew dark
بهادٍ اذا ما منهجُ المجدِ أظْلما
And made the path of glory clear after its obscurity,
He has illuminated the path of glory after its obscurity
With a guide whenever glory's path grew dark.
With guidance, when the path of glory was dark
وسلَّand unsheathed لنصرto champion الدينthe faith منكfrom you مُهنَّداًa sword of Indian steel
وسلَّ لنصر الدين منك مُهنَّداً
جريئاًdauntless اذاwhen ماemphatic particle هُزَّwas brandished للضربto strike صمَّماcut straight through
جريئاً اذا ما هُزَّ للضرب صمَّما
And unsheathed from you a sword of Indian steel to champion the faith,
He has drawn his sword for the victory of religion
Dauntless: whenever brandished to strike, it cleaves straight through.
Boldly, when summoned to strike with resolve
يُقرُّdelights عيونthe eyes of الناظرينthe beholders فِرنْدُهُits watered pattern
يُقرُّ عيون الناظرين فِرنْدُهُ
وتجريand flow بحدَّيهِalong its two edges معاركُهُits battles دماas blood
وتجري بحدَّيهِ معاركُهُ دما
Its watered pattern delights the beholders' eyes,
His spear brings joy to onlookers
And its battles flow as blood along both its edges.
And his blades lead his battles to blood
ومَنْand he whose شرفُSharaf (honor) الدينal-Din (of the faith) الوزيرthe vizier اختيارُهhis choice
ومَنْ شرفُ الدين الوزير اختيارُه
فأيُّthen what a لبيبٍdiscerning man ماhow أسَدَّsound in judgment وأحْزَماand prudent
فأيُّ لبيبٍ ما أسَدَّ وأحْزَما
And he whose choice is the vizier Sharaf al-Din—
The appointment of the Minister of Religion was an honor
What a discerning man—how judicious and prudent!
What sensible person has not been resolute and steadfast?
فدمتso may you remain لهfor him ردءاًa support ظهيراًa helper علىagainst العِدىthe foes
فدمت له ردءاً ظهيراً على العِدى
ودامَand may he remain عَطوفاًkindhearted سالمَsound in الرأيjudgment مُنْعِماbestowing favors
ودامَ عَطوفاً سالمَ الرأي مُنْعِما
So may you remain his support and helper against the foes,
So remain his protection and support against enemies
And may he remain kindhearted, sound in judgment, and generous.
And may your sound judgment remain graceful forever
