I was safe from poverty when I said with confidence
I trusted my poverty when I said with confidence
That none is generous save Sultan Mas‘ud,
That there is no generous one except the blessed Sultan
كماjust as أمِنْتُI was safe بقوليby my saying لاno إِلهgod سوىexcept الرحمthe All-Merciful (continued in line 4)

نِ تعذيب نارٍ ذات أخْدودِ
Just as, by saying “There is no god but the All-Merciful,” I was safe

Two fortresses in faith and worldly life—I have dwelt in both,
Two fortresses in religion and life that I inhabited
Both built of forgiveness and generosity.
Built from forgiveness and generosity
