ثنيت ركابي عن دبيس بن مزْيَدٍ
مناسِمُهاtheir footpads مماbecause of how تُغِذُّthey hasten دواميbleeding
مناسِمُها مما تُغِذُّ دوامي
I turned my riding camels away from Dubays ibn Mazyad,
I turned my riders away from Dubaib ibn Mazyad
their footpads bleeding from their hurried pace,
Whose pastures sustain my endurance

وطولُ رَحيلٍ عند طولِ مُقامِ
fleeing reproach reinforced by shame,
Fleeing from blame that appears through life
and long journeying coupled with a prolonged stay.
And the length of travel seems long when dwelling

بلفْظِ أمانٍ أو مقامِ ذِمامِ
If all-embracing bounty enfolds me in mercy,
If time treats all kindly in mercy
with a word of safe-conduct or a place of pledged protection,
With words of safety or abode of protection

Then rhymes in praise are eloquent
they defend your ancestral honor and exchange arrows.
Contending over your merits and reaching high
