    Honors have left him absorbed

In loving them, rather than loving gazelle or white gazelle.

Move between active deliberation and swift advance.

For glory is far beyond reach while I have not

Driven my soul into mighty terror,

    And raised battle-dust from assemblies

    Where aloeswood scents the breeze,

Guarantee me kingship, barren of kinship.

  19. وبنو الزوراء من هزلهم

    شُغلوا عن حمل أعباءِ الهموم

And the sons of al-Zawra, through their frivolity,

Are distracted from bearing the burdens of care.

  20. حسبوا أني منهم مثلما

    طرد الفقر فتى عبد الكريم

Hounding the enemy far and wide, just as

Abd al-Karim's son drove poverty away?
