صبرتI endured patiently للهجرthrough estrangement عنaway from اُنسيmy solace بقربهمُin their nearness
وخاننيand betrayed me الصبرpatience اِذwhen زُمَّتْwere bridled جِمالهمُtheir camels
I endured estrangement, deprived of the solace of their nearness;
And patience betrayed me when their camels were bridled.
وكنتُand I was مسكنَa dwelling ظبيٍa gazelle قبلbefore بَيْنِهُمtheir departure
واليومَand today مسكنهُits dwelling ودونيand between it and me رِحالُهُمُtheir camel-saddles
I was a gazelle's dwelling before their departure;
And remain its dwelling today, though their camel-saddles stand between us.
رمواthey shot فاصْمواso they slew outright ومنand whoever أصمتslew outright رماتُهمُtheir archers
يودُّhe longs لوthat عاودتْwould return تُصْميto slay outright نبالهمُtheir arrows
They shot and slew outright, and whoever their archers slew
Longs for their arrows to return and slay him again.
فليتَso, if only قُربهمُtheir nearness باقٍremaining علىwithin نَظَريmy sight
واِنand even if عدانيeluded me علىagainst رغميmy will وصالُهمُunion with them
If only their nearness remained within my sight,
Even if union with them eluded me against my will.
