أشكوI complain إليكَto you نهضةًa departure سَريعهْhasty
مُؤلمةًpainful لمُهجتيto my heart وجيعَهْgrievous
I complain to you of a hasty departure,
I complain to you of a sudden awakening
painful to my heart, grievous.
Painful for my tenderness and its ache
كلَّفهاhe imposed it ذوone possessed of النَّجْدةِaid السَّريعَهْswift
والحزمُand prudence كلall الحزمprudence أنto أُطيعهْI obey him
One swift to give aid charged me with it;
Assigned by one whose help was swift
and prudence—true prudence—is to obey him.
And decisiveness, the height of decisiveness, that I obey
وحالتيand my condition مُغْبَرَّةٌdust-covered شَنيعَهْwretched
بينamong أُناسٍpeople كسَرابِlike a mirage قيعَهْa plain
And my plight is dust-covered and wretched,
While my state is horribly dusty
among people like a mirage on a plain.
Amongst mirages of bleak deserts
فارْعَso heed مَقاليmy speech لاdo not تكُنْbe مُضيعَهْone who neglects it
So heed my words; do not neglect them.
So tend to my words, do not neglect them
