May the days bring you joy, O son of Muhammad—

the year's unmarked days and its festival seasons.

And may the Deaf Month never cease coming round

to you and returning, its blessings ever yours.

For from you comes refuge if the tribe abandons its neighbor,

and from you comes rain if the clouds fail us.

Mashrafi swords and spears fear his onslaughts,

and heavy, rain-pouring clouds envy his hands.

And with you the neighbor dwells in a towering stronghold,

short of which the inner and outer flight feathers tire.

When one whom you support engages the enemy,

then no calamity renews its assault, nor does any army rout him.

And everyone among the people strives for his own concerns,

while Abu al-Fadl's concern is eminence and noble deeds.

Baha al-Din has pursued his people's noble course:

how fine a man of ancient, time-honored glory!

A youth like a polished, keen-edged sword: as for its watered pattern,

it is an adornment; as for its edge, it is keen.

And he whose forebear is the much-praised Adud al-Din

has every man of glory serving his exalted station.
