حُثَّurge الكريمthe generous man علىtoward النَّدىgenerosity وتَقاضَهand press him
حُثَّ الكريم على النَّدى وتَقاضَه
بالوعدِregarding his promise وابْعثْهُand spur him علىto الإنْجازِfulfillment
بالوعدِ وابْعثْهُ على الإنْجازِ
Urge the generous man to give, and hold him
To his promise; spur him to fulfill it.
وَدَعِand abandon الوثوقَreliance بطبْعِهon his nature فلَطالماfor many a time
وَدَعِ الوثوقَ بطبْعِه فلَطالما
نَشِطَgrew lively الجَوادُthe noble steed بشوكةِby the point of المِهْمازthe spur
نَشِطَ الجَوادُ بشوكةِ المِهْماز
And do not rely on his nature, for many a time
A noble steed has been roused by the point of a spur.
