أو حَصَرٍ في اللسانِ لمْ أقُلِ
Do not think I held back out of weakness,
Do not think that I held back from responding
or did not speak because my tongue was tied.
Or that my tongue was tied, unable to speak.
قُبْحُthe ugliness of مَخازيكَyour shameful deeds هازمٌputting to flight شَرَفيmy honor
قُبْحُ مَخازيكَ هازمٌ شَرَفي
سوءةُthe private parts of عمْروٍAmr ثَنَتْturned back عِنانَthe reins of عليAli
سوءةُ عمْروٍ ثَنَتْ عِنانَ علي
The ugliness of your shameful deeds puts my honor to flight;
The ugliness of your actions overwhelms my honor.
Amr’s nakedness turned back Ali’s reins.
The misdeeds of Amr have pulled back Ali's reins.
