The narrators’ accounts have multiplied: one promises

Good on Your behalf, and another reports threats.

And they have split into factions: one glimpses a concession,

And another goes to excess in fear and strictness.

And the servants’ devotions have varied: one is rightly guided,

And another, misguided in his deeds, is not rightly guided.

And I came to Your door, bereft of any provision

Of my own, save good hope in You and affirmation of Your oneness.
