أناI والزِّنادُand the fire-striker ببَرْدهِin its coldness وتَصَبُّريand my patient restraint
سِيَّانِalike فيin الإِخْفاءِconcealment والكِتْمانِand secrecy
The fire-striker and I—in its coldness and my patient endurance—
I, in my patient restraint, and the fire-striker, in its coldness,
are alike in concealment and secrecy.
Are alike in concealment and secrecy.
لكنَّهُbut it بالقَدْحِthrough striking تَظْهَرُappears نارُهُits fire
وسَرائريand my innermost secrets أعْيَتْhave baffled علىto الإِخْوانthe brethren
Yet when struck, its fire appears,
Yet its fire appears when it is struck,
while my secrets have baffled my brethren.
And my innermost secrets have baffled my brethren.
فإذاso if أضِمْتُI am wronged فهِمَّةٌthen a lofty spirit لاnot تَرْتَضيconsents
أنْto تَشْتكيcomplain إِلاَّexcept إلىto الرَّحْمنِthe Most Merciful
So when I kept them hidden, you understood—you would not consent
So if I am wronged, my lofty spirit will not consent
to complain to anyone but the All-Merciful.
To complain to any but the Most Merciful.
