O house of Ja'far, whose generosity overflows,

Had Time been just, your numbers would not have dwindled.

In you, despite the days' harshness, there is compassion,

And from you patience and fortitude are learned.

For you have remained, though calamity's wind rages,

a steep, lofty mountain, its bounty gushing forth.

You yield to God, to brothers in Him, and to the

suppliant; yet sword and lion fear your might.

And know, though you know well, that it is a passing thing,

And there is no refuge from God, Lord of the Throne.

For you have felt no pain from a grievous calamity

Without my bearing many times what you feel.
