أباO father of الفوارسِthe horsemen والأيامُand the days شاهدةٌbearing witness
أبا الفوارسِ والأيامُ شاهدةٌ
أنيthat I بمدحكin praising you ذوpossessed of شدوٍsong وتغريدٍand warbling
أني بمدحك ذو شدوٍ وتغريدٍ
O Abu al-Fawaris—and the days bear witness—
That I sing and warble in your praise,
وأننيand that I صُغتI fashioned فيconcerning علناكَyour eminence (reading uncertain) منfrom مدحيmy praise
وأنني صُغت في علناكَ من مدحي
غراًradiant ones يُبارينthey rival حُسنthe beauty of الخُرَّدِshy maidens الغيدِgraceful ones
غراً يُبارين حُسن الخُرَّدِ الغيدِ
And that I have fashioned from my praise of your eminence
Radiant verses rivaling the beauty of shy, graceful maidens.
وحسنُand the goodness of عهدكَyour bond of friendship مشهورٌwell known وأكرمهُand its noblest aspect
وحسنُ عهدكَ مشهورٌ وأكرمهُ
وفاؤهits loyalty لصحيحto one sincere in الودِّaffection مَودودِbeloved
وفاؤه لصحيح الودِّ مَودودِ
And your faithful friendship is renowned; its noblest expression
Is its loyalty to a beloved friend whose affection is true.
