The eye had no sin for which it deserved

to be denied the sight of you, though the dwelling was nearby,

save that it shed only tears at your absence,

and it would have been most fitting for it to weep blood.

I owe—if my draught has tasted sweet

after parting—to the Bestower of kindness and blessings

the blood of marked sacrificial beasts in the caravan's hands,

as pilgrims to the Sacred House hasten with them.
