لم ألْقَ مُستكْبراً إِلاَّ تحولَّ لي

لم ألْقَ مُستكْبراً إِلاَّ تحولَّ لي

عند اللِّقاءِ لهُ الكِبْرُ الذي فيه

عند اللِّقاءِ لهُ الكِبْرُ الذي فيه

Never have I met an arrogant man but there passed to me,

I have not met an arrogant man except that it was shown to me

Upon meeting him, the arrogance within him.

At the meeting, it is the arrogance he possess

ولا حَلا لي من الدُّنيا ولَذَّتِها

ولا حَلا لي من الدُّنيا ولَذَّتِها

إِلاَّ مُقابَلتي للتِّيهِ بالتِّيهِ

إِلاَّ مُقابَلتي للتِّيهِ بالتِّيهِ

And nothing of this world or its pleasures has tasted sweet to me

And I have no escape from this world and its pleasures

Except my answering arrogance with arrogance.

Except to counter confusion with confusion
