    God bless the tribe

    whose son you have become!

It bore you as lord of its glory

and its pride and its radiance.

    And you succeeded it, adorned

with its loyalty and proud dignity.

For you have revived its fortunes

    and heightened its eminence.

And you surpassed its striving and all

that has been widely told of it,

    تكُفُّ منْ ضوْضائها

    through patience amid clamorous calamities,

    quelling their uproar;

and generosity in seasons of drought,

    giving aid in their hardship;

    and valor in oft-renewed war,

    whose crushing gloom you dispelled.

    Where keen-edged swords

    grow dull after their keenness,

    and horses stumble over spear-shafts

    scattered by their galloping,

    narrow-eyed, having taken

the blood of throats instead of their water,

    there, then, your sword dispels

the deepest gloom of its dark-armored host.

Men fell short of lofty glory,

while you trod upon its towering summit.

    And glory's goals grew distant,

so you brought its far-off aims near.

And you preserved the life of noble virtues

    whose last breath alone remained.

O scion of the caliphate, you who

have become one of its blessings,

the days grew fresh through you after

the privation of their dust-gray times,

    and shone resplendent

with their beauty and their splendor,

like the radiance of your face among your suppliants

    when their bounty is apportioned,

or amid calamities when they darken,

    and you dispel their blackness.

    بَقيتَ مثلَ بَقائها

    So may the days of time bring you joy;

may you last as long as they last,

for their fasting and their breaking of the fast,

and for their fear and their hope.
