نازلْتُ همِّي وهو فارسُ بُهْمةٍ

نازلْتُ همِّي وهو فارسُ بُهْمةٍ

فَهَزَمْتُهُ بتَتامِشِ بن قَماجِ

فَهَزَمْتُهُ بتَتامِشِ بن قَماجِ

I faced my sorrow in combat, a knight of fierce battle;

And routed it with Tatāmish ibn Qamāj—

بعلاءِ دين اللّه والنَّدْبِ الذي

بعلاءِ دين اللّه والنَّدْبِ الذي

ما زالَ منْ شَرفٍ على مِنْهاجِ

ما زالَ منْ شَرفٍ على مِنْهاجِ

With the glory of God's faith, and the gallant man who

Has ever followed the path of honor;

بأغَرَّ كَرَّارٍ إذا اشْتَجر القَنا

بأغَرَّ كَرَّارٍ إذا اشْتَجر القَنا

سارٍ إلى كَسْبِ العُلى مِدْلاجِ

سارٍ إلى كَسْبِ العُلى مِدْلاجِ

With a radiant warrior, ever charging when spears clash,

Journeying by night to win lofty glory, tireless in his night marches.

زُرَّتْ يَلامِقُهُ على طوْد النُّهى

زُرَّتْ يَلامِقُهُ على طوْد النُّهى

وعلى خَضَمٍّ في النَّدى عَجَّاجِ

وعلى خَضَمٍّ في النَّدى عَجَّاجِ

His robes are buttoned over a mountain of wisdom,

And over a vast sea, surging with generosity.

بطلٌ وَقاحُ السيف وهو لنُبْلِه

بطلٌ وَقاحُ السيف وهو لنُبْلِه

وحَيائهِ أبَداً بطَرْفٍ ساجِ

وحَيائهِ أبَداً بطَرْفٍ ساجِ

A hero whose sword is bold, yet, for his nobility

And his modesty, his gaze is ever tranquil.
